Property

We continue our efforts to maintain and improve the church property. We have engaged a small local landscaping company to fertilize the lawns. Additional weeding has also been completed around the church and cemetery grounds, including the removal of selected beds to help reduce ongoing groundskeeping costs. With assistance from our neighbors and the owners of Ludwig’s Corner, we coordinated the removal of debris and construction materials near the north wall of the cemetery. This allowed the wall to be inspected, and minor repairs are now being coordinated with upcoming masonry work. Over the next one to two months, we will make more permanent repairs to the front steps. We will also patch the stairs to the office and repoint the brickwork leading up to the office.

The Upper Hall has not been cooling adequately during periods of extreme heat. We contacted our HVAC contractor, who determined that an air-handling unit over the kitchen had an aging belt that was slipping, as well as clogged filters. These issues will be addressed at an upcoming service appointment. The contractor will also review the sanctuary A/C condensate line, which may be beginning to clog.

For all work performed at the church, we continue to review payment structures, seek competitive bids, and confirm that completed work meets expectations. This approach has resulted in improved pricing and discounts for the projects described above, while continuing to ensure quality improvements to our facilities.

We extend special thanks to Ken Mancini and John Eblacker for their assistance in coordinating the many projects underway at the church this month.

As always, if you notice any maintenance concerns, please notify myself or Rev’d Ben. If you are interested in lending a hand as we care for our historic church, we would be grateful to hear from you. We may soon undertake a new lighting campaign and will be seeking volunteers to assist. There is always room for new members on the Property Committee.
