Fellowship… What’s it all about?
We are taking the opportunity with this Piper article to share with you the meaning and activity of the Fellowship ministry. We prepared a poster board and some handouts for the Ministry fair. We’d like to open this month’s article with some things from the fair because they are meaningful to us and we hope you can see the value in them for you as a parishioner.
What is Fellowship? Classic textbook definition: Individuals or groups, of common confession of faith, coming together to share time, food and social activity as Christian brothers.
Why do we have fellowship at Saint Andrew’s? In addition to building new relationships or reinforcing existing ones in the presence of Our Lord… IT’S FUN! We have events spread across the church calendar that are really good times for those who attend and very rewarding for those who join in supporting them. In Matthew 18 it says “for whenever two or three gather in my name, there I am with them”. So…. it’s a good time, and God is with us. It doesn’t get much better than that! Check out the activities below and join us… You will love it!
Our big kick-off… the Parish Picnic was on September 13th. Although the weather did not want to cooperate, we made it happen inside the Upper Hall. The picnic was a great success! Thank you everyone who brought a dish to share. A special thank you to the Pratt family for sharing their hot dog grill, so much fun actually watching those dogs grill up. However, the big grilling piece goes to Jeff Herrera for his master skills at the BBQ – cooking up all those burgers with a light drizzle to keep him company while the rest of us got to participate in the church service and preceding ministry fair. Can’t thank you enough Jeff!
The Adult Dinner Party is the next big event. With the help of Rev’d Ben, we will be presenting a “Mystery Dinner Theater”. Save the date…Friday October 16th at 6:30 pm in the Upper Hall. This event is truly going to be a mystery...Rev’d Ben has not even informed the fellowship members about what will occur. A 4-course dinner will be catered through Liberty Union. Beverages along with wine donated by our wine expert Geoff McConnell will be also provided. To sign up, please click here. We invite all to attend and to even bring a friend. Please contact Mary Lou Mancini at mlmancini55@gmail.com, or Nancy Moore at neemoore@yahoo.com for additional information or questions.
The Wine and Cheese Book Review will be held on Sunday November 15th at 6:30pm in the Upper Hall. Fred Reinhardt is working with the fellowship members to introduce us to the book by Peter Kreeft titled Between Heaven and Hell: A Dialog Somewhere Beyond Death with John F. Kennedy, C. S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley, examining beliefs on life after death. You don’t need to read the book prior to the event; we will be doing a presentation on some of their passages. However, several copies of the book have been purchased and will be distributed to those interested in reading it. Unfortunately, the book is not available from the community libraries. We expect lots of discussion to follow on how you feel about their perceptions during this get together! More details on the distribution of copies of the book will be coming in the near future.
Once again, we cannot go without putting out a big “Thank You” to all who have assisted with our coffee hours. “Pop-up” coffee hours in the Narthex after the 8am services will continue. The coffee hour after the 10 am service is now being held in the Upper Hall. Thank you to all who have contributed to their continued success! Remember; coffee, tea, water and juice are provided by the church. For those that volunteer in the coming weeks: all we ask is to bring a small treat to share with your fellow parishioners, make coffee and then clean up afterwards. To sign up, please click here or use the sign-up sheet outside the Upper Hall. Any question please don’t hesitate to contact us. Mary Lou Mancini at mlmancini55@gmail.com, or Nancy Moore at neemoore@yahoo.com.
We look at these events as a means to celebrate the season and come together to enjoy our fellowship. As usual, we count on you and invite everyone to make your mark on one of these events. We look forward to seeing you and joining us in our efforts to keep you engaged in our church social life.
