“Seasonal Changes”

One of the sure signs of autumn is the relentless release of leaves from our trees, blanketing our walkways, parking lot, and play areas. Equally sure a sing of the season is the collection of Boy Scouts who come out to remove those leaves! Again, the Troop rose to the occasion and moved dozens of tarps filled with leaves from around the property. I’ll take this moment in The Piper to formally express the gratitude of the entire congregation and leadership of our church to the Boy Scouts of Troop 220. Thank you!

Another sign of the season is the HVAC maintenance and inspection for the heating season. We were surprised and pleased that the new contractor found that our boilers were in serious need of internal cleaning. So much cleaning was needed that an extra day was required for completion. This cleaning will not only help our equipment last longer; it will save us money on fuel due to increased efficiency.

The season wasn’t the reason we changed our extermination services, but again, just as with the HVAC contractor, a “new broom swept clean.” This time it was in the attic and boiler rooms. About a month ago Orkin sent in a team to thoroughly clean out those spaces and set traps and deterrents for a variety of pests. Their follow-up visit was a couple of days ago and every space showed no evidence of returning critters. Orkin will be coming every month to assure we remain pest free.

There were a few more items worthy of sharing. We passed our annual inspection of the 14 fire extinguishers throughout our buildings. Also, the restoration work necessitated by the attic air conditioner condensate leak was completed this month. If you’d like to go to see the work it will be nearly impossible…that’s how good a job was done! And finally, the lights over our parking lot were both replaced by PECO. One light had stopped working, but they replaced both to avoid a second trip if the second one would fail soon.

In closing, if you see something that needs our attention, please let me know. If you’d like to be available to lend a hand in our work to keep our old church young, let me know about that too. There’s always an open spot on the Property Committee.

Regards,

Ken Mancini
