Something Fishy Has Happened Here

Once again, we would like to thank those that have assisted in our fellowship coffee hour: Nancy Carroll, Diane Cikoski, Diane Moretsohn, Pam Bennett, Susan Berry Gorelli, Meg Sebastianelli and the group referred to as “The Fisherman”. As you know, last month we celebrated Mother’s Day. Mothers of all ages, standing in the Narthex after the 8 am service, or in the Upper Hall after the 10 am service, excited to see that, in addition to the usual coffee, tea, juice, and snacks, there were big bright red roses and carnations waiting for them to take home! What a special treat on that special Sunday, Mother’s Day. But, who did this? How did this get done without the mom’s themselves getting involved? That’s the “Fishy” part…it was the work of “The Fishermen!”

As you may (or may not) know, there is a group of men who meet at 7:15 am every Friday morning to read and study the Bible. In the heritage of St. Andrew, they call themselves “The Fisherman.” They are a stalwart crew, waking up early and dragging themselves into the church, sometimes braving the trepidations of weather and dealing with the constraints of commuting to work or catching the early morning tee time, to meet for Biblical fellowship and fraternity. This is a crew that is not easily intimidated. So, when they were asked to host the Mother’s Day coffee hours, they rose to the occasion. With a bit of internal organization, and a few ounces of “hands-on guidance” by the Fellowship Vestry members, the guys made it happen. From set-up to clean-up and everything in between, the guys gave it their all. And being the caring gentlemen that they are, they put on the added touch of “A Rose or Carnation for Every Mother.” Fishermen volunteers and donors to the effort included Rev’d Ben, Jeff Herrara, Lee Johnson, Ken Mancini, Geoff McConnell, Jeff Moretsohn, Doug Pratt, Fred Reinhardt, and Tom Riley. Incidentally, if you’d like to join the Fisherman, just reach out Rev’d Ben or any of the members listed in the previous sentence and they’ll be glad to have you join them. It’s a fun and inspiring way to get ready for the weekend.

We also would like to let everyone know that we have wrapped up our traditional 10 am coffee hour. The special strawberry coffee hour that followed the Children’s service on the 31st of May was the last coffee hour in the upper hall. Over the summer months (June through August), we will be having pop-up coffee hours in the Narthex for both the 8am and 10am services. Coffee and tea will be provided by the church. There is a sign up for anyone interested in bringing a small treat to share.

As mentioned in a previous Piper article, we believe that there are two types of people in our congregation: those who have participated and supported these Fellowship events, and those who soon will. We invite everyone to make your mark on one of these events, either behind the scenes or in front. Now is your chance.
