St. Andrew's Episcopal Church

“Things worth seeing and doing”

This has been a great month for those looking at the church to see some very nice improvements. First, take a look at the playground area. It had become overgrown with weeds and the mulch had compacted down to the point where it was hard and uninviting for children. In late October that all changed. A contractor came out, and in one day, dug out years’ worth of built-up mulch and roots, hauled it away and replaced it with 48 cubic yards of certified playground mulch. It is now weed free and soft as a cloud. I encourage children of all ages to visit that area and enjoy that revitalized play area.

Second, hopefully you have seen that the sign in front of the sanctuary has been rebuilt, pretty much from the ground up. The only thing remaining from the old sign are the iron brackets holding the sign to the signpost. The work was done by Marsh Creek signs. They used PVC for the sign board, vinyl for the lettering. They installed pressure treated lumber put into the ground with concrete, and then covered with a white PVC sleeve to make the signpost. We can expect that sign to endure for decades.

As for something worth doing, we have the Fall Clean-up scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 9 am to noon. (Rain date December 14). If you’re free that morning come on out and join the Boy Scouts as we engage in the annual autumn ritual of cleaning beds and moving leaves. It’s work…but it’s fun. Hope to see you out there.

One final bit of information that makes all of the above even better: All of them are gifts that do not impact the church budget. The playground and sign are both gifts to the church from parishioners, and, as usual, the clean-up is a huge gift from our Boy Scout troop and many other volunteers.

If you see something that needs our attention, please let me know. If you’d like to be available to lend a hand in our work to keep our old church young, let me know about that too. There’s always an open spot on the Property Committee.

Regards,

Ken Mancini
