“Wet and Wild Summer Wrap-up!”
Our summer was very quiet from a property perspective…until August! That’s when the water started flowing in a variety of ways.
First, our office air conditioning system condensate pipe sprung a leak…and it was during a hot spell when the A/C unit was working overtime to cool the offices. I was able to get to the office to check it out, but being somewhat delayed, lots had happened by the time I got there and fix that leak. The water leaked from the attic over Reverend Ben’s office through the ceiling of his office, down a wall, and then down through to the ceiling of the first floor. Fortunately, most of the damage was cosmetic and a little primer and paint should bring things back to normal.
At the same time, the point-of-use water heater under the sink in the restroom by the narthex also sprung a leak. Fortunately, that unit was under a warranty so the installer came out to fix that at no charge to the church.
Finally, the circulating pump on boiler No. 1 (supplies heat to all but the office space) made some strange noises while running. This miraculously, and without intervention, stopped before I could even hear it. This resolution was a “gift” that I can’t and won’t try to question. That was especially fortunate because we had our semi-annual Pennsylvania state boiler inspection this month. The boilers passed the inspection without any issues.
If you see something that needs our attention, please let me know. If you’d like to be available to lend a hand in our work to keep our old church young, let me know about that too. There’s always an open spot on the Property Committee.
Regards,
Ken Mancini
