“Filling Big Shoes…and Starting a New Walk”
Very BIG SHOES INDEED! Julia Sanders envisioned, created, and managed some of the most spectacular events in the history of St. Andrew’s Fellowship activities. Her unique vision and energy make her a one-of-a kind. So, while we are excited and honored to begin our term as members of the Vestry for Fellowship, we would be less than sincere if we didn’t convey our feeling of being somewhat daunted by the challenge of trying to fill her shoes. We wish to express our sincere and very heartfelt thanks to Julia Sanders for her years of service.
Our “new walk” began with the addition of a new coffee hour. With the able assistance of Nancy Carroll, the first “pop-up” coffee hour following the 8 o’clock service happened in March. Being conveniently located in the Narthex, early service parishioners enjoyed a time to build friendships while enjoying a cup of their favorite beverage and a sweet treat. We continue to look for anyone that would like to donate treats (a sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex during the coffee hour). Coffee and tea are provided by the church. Overall, we feel that it has been a welcome addition to this service.
Although not “new,” our “walk” continues with our 10 o’clock service coffee hour in the Upper Hall. These have become a staple of the fellowship at St. Andrew’s and we plan to keep them that way. We strive to make both the 8 am and the 10 am coffee hours casual, congenial, and comfortable…and so far I think we have been on target.
The “new walk” extends to you as well as us who handle Fellowship. We need you to “walk” with us by volunteering either your time or your food donations for these coffee hours. We appreciate all who have previously signed up, but we are looking to add “new” faces to be a part of these events. The on-line sign-up genius as well as a paper sign up sheet (on the table outside the upper hall), are available to volunteer for future dates. If you never volunteered before and are concerned about what is needed, we are here to guide you. Your volunteering is needed and greatly appreciated.
A “new” and unique special coffee hour occurred on March 1st hosted by the Outreach committee. Archdeacon Dennis Coleman introduced a new Outreach partner, “The Essentials Pantry,” affiliated with Christ Church of Pottstown. We welcome similar Outreach events during future coffee hours.
On Saturday evening, April 4th, we will be hosting an Easter Vigil reception after the 7 o’clock service, featuring Charcutier items, desserts and beverages…including some special wines. The sign-up genius is available for anyone interested in assisting with a dessert or beverage. A big “Thank You” in advance to Geoff McConnel for once again handling the wine selection for the evening.
In closing, Fellowship at St. Andrew’s is, by definition, for all parishioners and newcomers, so we welcome you and your support. If you have an idea for an event, have some time to participate in an event, or wish to make a donation to one, we would love to hear from you.
